What is coaching?

Coaching is a joint effort between a coach and client, carried out in a thought-provoking, creative, and intentional conversation that inspires and empowers the client to fully live out their calling and achieve their goals in their life and profession.

The primary objective of coaching is to enable you, the client, to discover new insights and fresh perspectives about yourself and take action to reshape your life around that learning.

Throughout the coaching process, you will gain deeper self-awareness and insights, modify your behavior and actions, and ultimately attain the results that satisfy you. While much is expected of you (to reason, evaluate, imagine, decide, and implement), I will provide unwavering support to help you navigate this transformative journey to a reshaped life.

Coaching is all about youyour learning, your future, and your action.

What isn't coaching?

Coaching is not therapy, mentoring, consulting, or training.

Most importantly, it’s not therapy. Although many of the communication techniques are the same and there is a bit of overlap between coaching and therapy, there are differences. Therapists diagnose and treat clients who are suffering from some type of mental illness, disorder, or dysfunction. Coaches work with clients who are mentally healthy and basically clear of psychological and emotional issues. Therapy helps a person work towards healing the past and achieving normal functioning, while coaching helps a person focus forward to achieve optimal functioning.

It’s not mentoring, consulting, or training. These helping professions usually involve an expert in a particular field passing on their knowledge, guidance, correction, encouragement, and advice. They may use some coaching techniques, but are mainly telling the client what to do and how to do it, rather than drawing out solutions from the client. When a coach supports the client in creating their own plan of action and implementing it, the client gains stronger long-term problem-solving ability and capacity.

AND…

It’s not authoritarian. Did you ever have a demanding music teacher or sports coach who used to yell at you and make you do a thousand arpeggios or push-ups as some sort of discipline or strengthening “exercise”? That’s not this kind of relationship. I may push you beyond what you might think you can do, but will always be supportive. You are in control. The responsibility to decide and act is yours.

Here’s the thing: I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I will share observations to help elicit and inspire your own understanding, learning, growth, and insights. I believe in you and know that you can figure out whatever it is that you need to figure out—with my helping you to think, rather than my dictating to you what to do.

Why should I work with a coach?

The reasons you may want coaching are many! You may be wanting to:

  • reduce stress
  • improve your relationships
  • better deal with uncertainty
  • address transitions in location and employment
  • make significant changes
  • make better decisions
  • set better goals
  • reach goals faster
  • grow spiritually
  • discover your purpose and calling
  • make a bigger impact on the world
  • become financially more stable
  • be a collaborative partner
  • be a better leader
  • be a better parent
  • simplify your life
  • keep up with the speed of life

Coaching works because it brings out your best. Coaches believe that you have the ability to discover your own best answers and we are trained to support you in that process.

What’s your coaching style? I’ve heard of different types of approaches.

As a coach, my style is that of a thinking partner, dedicated to helping you discover your own answers and insights while understanding your individual goals. I believe in the power of self-discovery and self-directed learning. Instead of providing direct solutions or advice, I guide you towards greater self-awareness and encourage you to tap into your own personal insights.

Every client is unique, so I tailor my coaching to address your specific challenges and goals. I take the time to understand your needs and desires, ensuring that each session is personalized and focused on your growth. By fostering a safe and collaborative environment, I create a space where you can explore possibilities and find the answers that resonate with you.

My coaching style as a thinking partner revolves around active listening, thought-provoking questions and observations, and a focus on self-discovery. Through this approach, I empower you to gain awareness, make informed decisions, and take meaningful actions towards your personal and professional growth.

I notice you mention prayer and your faith in God. Do I have to be a Christian to work with you?

I love prayer and I love God, and you don’t have to be a Christian to work with me!

While you do not need to be a Christian to work with me, I coach from a place of my own faith and I invite the Holy Spirit to guide me and our coaching conversations. I will come to our coaching relationship as myself, a Catholic Christian, and I try my best to invite and include Jesus Christ in all that I do.

Supporting Stars is open to all women who are open to journeying within this worldview. If you’d like to talk about your relationship with God in our sessions, we will, and if you don’t, we won’t!

Do I need to be a wife to work with you?

Absolutely not! While I primarily work with wives, Supporting Stars welcomes all women in committed relationships with high-level athletes and performing artists. The foundation of our coaching together is grounded in your dedication and willingness to wholeheartedly support your partner’s professional career trajectory. While being a wife traditionally implies a certain level of commitment and partnership, what matters most here is your aspiration to harmoniously blend your personal ambitions with your partner’s demanding pursuits, regardless of whether you’re a girlfriend, fiancée, or wife. At Supporting Stars, I’m all about empowering you to create a balanced, supportive relationship that fuels both your partner’s and your own dreams.

However, I’m sorry, but I don’t work with men. I am cheering you on to fully support your loved one and build the incredible family life you envision and are meant to have! I’m happy to provide recommendations for men seeking personal coaching.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes! Our relationship, all personal information, and anything we talk about in a coaching session stays between you and me. And at the same time, should you choose to, you are more than welcome to tell all your friends about how awesome it is!
